My 50 film recommendations for the 2011 NFR

Clara over at Via Margutta 51 recently made two posts about the NFR (National Film Registry) and in her lastest post she listed the 50 films she picked as suggestions to become part of the NFR in 2011. So, I had a look on the website and decided that I would jump on the band wagon and send in my 50 suggestions. Here they are:

1. Random Harvest (1942)
2. Auntie Mame (1958)
3. Blossoms in the Dust (1941)
4. I Remember Mama (1948)
5. Stage Door (1937)
6. Tea and Sympathy (1956)
7. Penny Serenade (1941)
8. Since You Went Away (1944)
9. Perfect Strangers (Vacation From Marriage) (1946)
10. The Quiet Man (1952)
11. The Misfits (1960)
12. Hud (1963)
13. Marked Woman (1937)
14. Home From the Hill (1960)
15. Ball of Fire (1941)
16. Fried Green Tomatoes (1991)
17. Stand By Me (1986)
18. Goodbye, Mr. Chips (1939)
19. Separate Tables (1958)
20. Madame Curie (1943)
21. Edward, My Son (1949)
22. Hell's Angels (1930)
23. My Favourite Wife (1940)
24. Sorry, Wrong Number (1948)
25. Gentlemen's Agreement (1947)
26. The Great Escape (1963)
27. Quo Vadis (1950)
28. Mogambo (1953)
29. Lady of Burlesque (1943)
30. When Ladies Meet (1941)
31. Julius Caesar (1953)
32. Humoresque (1946)
33. Love Affair (1939)
34. My Sister Eileen (1942)
35. The Snake Pit (1948)
36. Stella Dallas (1937)
37. Caged (1950)
38. On Golden Pond (1981)
39. Dishonored (1931)
40. Shanghai Express (1932)
41. Charade (1963)
42. Rebecca (1940)
43. Scaramouche (1952)
44. Arise, My Love (1940)
45. Sophie's Choice (1982)
46. Cleopatra (1934)
47. The Man With the Golden Arm (1955)
48. The Egg and I (1947)
49. The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer (1947)
50. Blithe Spirit (1946)

I'm happy with my choices, although it was hard to narrow them down to the final 50. If you wish to suggest a film (or more than one - you can suggest up to 50) you can find how to do so here. The NFR have a huge list of films that you can pick from or you can also suggest films that aren't on the list just so long as they're "... at least 10 years old" and "... “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”". I'd love to see which films other people recommend to the NFR.

  1. Cool you included some Paul Newman films, and "The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer", and "Fried Green Tomatoes" and "Separate Tables"...oh my gosh, there are so many films I wanted to include but had to leave out :) I have to check #50, I had never heard about that one before.
