An Awful Victory (poll results)

The Awful Truth won out as the most popular film from my first batch of 100 Essential Classic Films with 9 of the 30 votes.

In second place came Seven Brides For Seven Brothers with 6 votes.

After that came Camille, The Heiress, Ninotchka and Funny Face each with 3 votes. Psycho and Grand Hotel followed with 2 votes and 1 vote respectively. Marked Woman and Oliver! didn't have a look in as neither of them received a vote.

New Poll!

I have a new poll up (it's over there in the sidebar :) ) asking you which of the 10 films I posted for the first part of my 100 Essential Classic Films series is your favourite. I thought it would a fun thing to do alongside each one of the series posts. Anyway, just a heads up so that we can get lots of people voting! :D

In first place with 26 votes, an astounding 54% of the votes cast, is CAROLE LOMBARD! 

I did think that it was probable she would win, but I never thought it would be such a huge victory. Well done, Carole! 

In second place, with 6 votes, was someone I was not expecting to be up there in the top 3, Katharine Hepburn. Well played, Kate! ;D

Tied for 3rd place with 4 votes apiece are Irene Dunne and Jean Arthur. I thought that Irene might have come in first, I have to admit, but 3rd place isn't too shabby.

Roz Russell came in 4th with 3 votes (I was a little sad about this, I had hoped more people would vote for her). Barbara Stanwyck and Myrna Loy tied for 5th place with 2 votes each, and poor Claudette Colbert came in last with only 1 vote :(

New Poll: Who's Your Favourite von Trapp Kid?

As I've mentioned so many time before, The Sound of Music is one of my favourite films and when I was growing up I used to measure my age with the ages of the von Trapp children. Now I'm sadly older than all of them (at least I got someone to sing Sixteen Going on Seventeen to me before I turned 17), although most people would probably place my mental age somewhere between Gretl and Marta. My favourite growing up changed several times. First it was Gretl (and Liesl because she was so grown up!), then Louisa, and for the past few years it's been Brigitta. She is hilarious and brilliant and I want to be her! So, let me know who your favourite is by voting in the poll in the sidebar :)

I'm so sorry it's taken me so long to make this post! Anyway, at least I'm doing it now! ;D

Well, I kind of knew before anyone voted on the poll which film the winner would be...

...yeah, I'm not even going to give the title because if you don't know what film this is...shame on you! ;D Who hasn't seen and loved Julie Andrews singing on an alp, dancing through Salzburg in a horrible clothes and carrying a cumbersome guitar, or dressing children in old curtains and then making them dance through Salzburg singing? Also, who hasn't suffered through Something Good - a film scene so hilarious that they had to film it in shadows because Julie and Christopher kept laughing. Needless to say, this film is just brilliant. I LOVE IT SO MUCH! Oh, and people, the Baroness is clearly the greatest character in this (well, her and the nun who looks like Eve Arden...). She wasn't even being horrible when she made Maria go away. I mean, come on, she was virtually married to the Captain and then Julie waltzes in with her 4 octaves and whooosh. Do not hate on B. Schraeder. She is the best and was my favourite character even when I was little. Oh, and just before I finish rambling about this glorious film, it should be noted that this film is probably my most watched. This, and The King and I, was basically the only thing I ever watched from the age of 4-9. I must have seen it over 1000 times...I'm not even kidding. For the last few weeks, I've watched it every night to help me get to sleep...it's like an old friend talking to me! ;D

The next film is my most loved R&H musical...

The King and I

This was the film that made me fall in love with Old Hollywood - mainly because of Deborah Kerr. I love everything about this film: the costumes, the songs, the amazing sets, and Deborah. Anyway, this came in joint second with 3 votes. To the people who voted for this, I love you! ;D

I hate this musical. I actually HATE IT! It's so horrible! I can't even...

Fasten Your Seatbelts...The Results Are In For the Bette or Joan Poll!

Well, the results are in for the Bette Davis vs. Joan Crawford (doesn't "vs." make it more exciting!?). A BIIIIG thank you to everyone who voted!

I'm actually rather surprised by the results as I had anticipated the two ladies being head to head all the way. However, we can conclude from this poll that the majority of my blog readers are good old....

...BETTE DAVIS fans! She received 15 of the 17 votes cast.

Poor Joan is sulking now. This one time, though, I'll forgive her...wouldn't you be sulking if you'd only received two votes? ;D

I'm certain most of you know which of these two actresses is my personal favourite, but, as I told you, I bought a Joan Crawford box set today (and I really can't wait until it comes!), so perhaps I don't dislike her as much as you might think! ;D She'll never match Bette, though...
